About

Changing the way we interact with our cities, to be inclusive for all.

‘Briometrix’ comes from the Italian dictionary

Brio. v. enthusiasm, spirt, gusto and vitality

Metrix. v. to measure your performance and set the standard

History

Briometrix was started by a diverse and passionate team of entrepreneurs and engineers, united by a common mission to build a technology that would empower people to experience ‘the joy of going somewhere new.’

With its roots in the wheelchair community, the Briometrix team has helped decision makers across Australia and the United States understand the social and economic benefits of getting a city mobile, and the emotional and physical benefits of those with limited mobility getting out into parks, nature and trails.

Over time that story has evolved into not just putting mobility on the map, but creating partnerships with organisations and investors to push the boundaries of what is possible with Briometrix technologies.

We see a future where users as diverse as clinicians, allied health workers, town and city planners, and sports performance coaches can use our quality data to build better city centres, deliver better health outcomes and provide more insight into the lived experience of those with limited mobility.

We’re also committed to socially just outcomes and providing employment for people with limited mobility through pilots and data analysis teams.

You can find out more about our invitation to work with us here. In the meantime, we’d like to introduce you to our team.

Natalie Verdon
CEO

It’s not just the challenge of finding a solution that drives Briometrix CEO Natalie Verdon. It’s the excitement “of finding that clever solution” for the wheelchair community.

Natalie founded Briometrix in 2014 after a career in quality improvement and change management, process management, business planning and teamwork consulting. She has worked in a range of industries and has started a number of her own businesses.

Which is why the Briometrix co-founder is so passionate about using her business experience to develop products that are both rich in social equity outcomes and address commercial problems. After all, Natalie has been looking for solutions all of her working career.

With the goal of colour coding every city with Brio map, Natalie is focused on building strategic partnerships across the accessibility sector and other industries to help achieve the Briometrix vision. She is also working to open a division in clinical and fitness for the wheelchair community.

When she is not working, Natalie likes to drop out of city life with her camera and go for a walk or ride, explore new places or enjoy live music and theatre. Her favourite walking route is street graffiti walks.

Eckhard Kemmerer

Eckhard Kemmerer
Head of Product

Eckhard is Head of Product and Founder of Briometrix.

Eck comes from a long history of research and development, marketing, divisional management, board director and chairmanships. He specialises in creating new products, services and markets and his work has achieved millions of dollars in sales from new products over decades for various companies.

Now Eck brings the focus of his innovation efforts into people with a disability. “The problems areas are so deep that the solutions must be so outstanding to cover it. So, you end up with really interesting solutions and thinking,” Eck says.

He says that working with Briometrix opens creative and innovative solutions that make a profound impact on the lives of people living in a modern world.

“I enjoy working with people who appreciate what you are doing. We are making a difference to people, you can see that when you work with them,” Eck says.

He also says that the work of Briometrix has the added bonus of opening up opportunities to employ wheelchair users across the project from pilots, to data analysis and beyond. Eck says that wheelchair users are a key part of the solution.

When he is not “getting to work on solving big problems” by designing, researching, developing or tinkering, Eck is an amateur comedian, conducts and sings in choirs and he enjoys spending time with his wife and grandchildren.

Eck hopes to one day author a book on Parkinson’s disease and his favourite route is exploring places he has never been before.

Scott Clifton
Head of Technology

With a remarkable career in engineering products for Defence, Automobile, Medical and Marine, Scott has held numerous roles including Vice-President Engineering and Director of New Products. He is focused on making things move; over further distances, with less effort and sustained power.

Whether that is underwater delivery or drones in the sky – or working on an America’s Cup yacht – it’s all about movement.

Scott says that his work at Briometrix is, “solving a problem no one else has worked on.”

It’s the revolution in small wheels that makes Scott so excited about the future of Briometrix. He sees the huge potential for ‘that last mile’ in delivery systems and footpath networks that will change how we move and shop.

Scott’s strong background in maths, physics, mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, software engineering, production, fabrication and prototyping, he is well placed to provide the leadership necessary to take Briometrix technology into the future.

“I enjoy leading teams of engineers, scientists and technicians through the challenging product development process.”

When he is not working on a new design, Scott enjoys driving his MGs – preferably up to a vineyard or cellar door where he can discover a new drop of wine to go with a memorable night of dining out.

Scott’s favourite route is coastal paths.

Andy Brown
Sales North America

As an elite cyclist Andy Brown, Head of Sales in North America, intuitively knows what it feels like to have his wheels on the ground.

A passionate advocate of Briometrix technology and with an imagination of what it can do to transform the lives of others, Andy comes to Briometrix with a long history working the small to medium sized enterprises to help build company sales channels, clients bases and partnerships nationally and internationally. Andy was the founder of Transport Logistics.

Andy says that working with Briometrix has given him an insight into how technology can transform lives for the better.

“The breadth of problems the technology addresses for health, fitness and outdoor life make working for Brio so rewarding,” he says. “Personally, as an elite cyclist, I have always loved technology to measure my performance and it has been a major part of my competitive life.”

It comes as no surprise than, that Andy is particularly excited about the possibilities of the clinical mobility and BRIO GO app to prevent injury, motivate healthy habits and help with fitness goals.

When it is not doing all things Brio, Andy enjoys rebuilding Aston Martin cars, and is the Founder of Village South Africa, an organisation dedicated to supporting orphans and raising awareness around HIV.

His favourite walk is rail trails.

Mobility is intrinsic to the quality of life experienced in cities. We must now seize the opportunity to place people back at the heart of our cities and drive a human focused approach to the design of the built environment.
