University Campuses

Finding better routes on campus

Campus can be a bewildering place, especially for new students, staff and visitors.  It encompasses many different environments, from the busiest squares to the quietest corners.

Campuses must balance security, safety and accessibility throughout the cycles of the day.

How we do it

First we gather feedback from students and staff, especially disability groups, to understand what difficulties and mobility issues are faced by pedestrians moving around campus.

Then we assess the footpath network across campus, including all end-points like transit stops and building entrances as well as road crossings, ramps, bridges and lifts.

Next step is analysis – determining the usability of every segement of the network, identifying and assessing issues that may create a delayed or difficult journey experience.

Benefits

Our colour-coded effort-based Mobility Maps improve campus experience by helping students, faculty, and visitors to find their way around, reducing stress and saving time to reach their destination.

These maps remove uncertainty for people with limited mobility and give them confidence to plan their visit, and once on campus, to find their way around easily.

Briometrix Detailed Accessibility Report helps maintenance crews to find and rectify any issues identified in our assessment, enabling a barrier-free experience for those with disabilities.

By identifying and mapping low effort routes, ramps and accessible entrances that connect to internal lifts and corridors, we enable smarter navigation around hilly and complex campuses for all users, especially those with mobility challenges.
